I Can See for Miles

.....and miles and miles and miles.....

We decided to climb Helvellyn via Striding Edge today because it was as perfect a day for it as you are likely to get . Dry,sunny, not too hot, bit of a breeze, some nice photographers fluffy white clouds, couldn't be better. This is the view from the top with Red Tarn in the foreground.

LooseCanon originally planned a more gentle way up, and isn't too keen on ridges where you could fall several hundred feet in either direction, but I persuaded him to do Striding Edge as I like a bit of an edge myself. We took in Dollywaggon Pike on the way down too as we are trying to tick off a few Wainwrights.

When your walking companion/husband tells you you'll gain height quickly, that means it's steep.
If he says it's fantastic views very soon, that means it's steep.
When he says it'll flatten out soon that means it will be slightly less steep but is steep now.
On the way down, if he says 'Look how far we've come down already' that means it's steep, but this time you're going down so instead of being breathless, your knees are creaking.
Finally, six hours after setting off,  if the ground levels out, you realise you're back at the car park.

We walked twelve miles on a very hot day.
