Beware what you wish for
This is extraordinarily weird for me, now, to write the caption for this photo. It was taken when it says, but I'm writing this on the 18th May 2014. I've a bit of time up my sleeve these days...
Back then, we decided it was past time to be living in the same city and I'd "done my dash" as Dad would say. Two days after that, a friend called from Arc'teryx saying there was a job going that I could (and should) apply for. Now, if you’re in the outdoor gear design game, that’s pretty cool bananas as Arc’teryx have a reputation for design excellence and all sorts of other amazing stuff.
Which led to my inherent belief that I can’t design my way out of a paper bag, much less design something cool for these guys.
The dilemma was clear.
Heart-felt thanks to Meccanica for his beautiful rendition of my portfolio. Fortunately, it seemed to get into the right hands and all was looking very sweet.
Unfortunately, while this was happening, the manager who was to interview me resigned.
Fortunately, they decided to offer me his job instead! After a phone interview, I found myself in Vancouver for a day-long interview and quick tour on Vancouver and environs. This is me, outside their head office where design dreams are born.
Also fortunately, they offered me the job! All it needed was a visa…
Unfortunately there was a big delay and while waiting for the paperwork we’d sold a lot of our stuff including our house, packed up the rest and handed it over to an international moving company.
Once again, the dilemma was clear.
Did the visa eventually arrive? Yup.
Are we moving to Canada to live? Yup.
Am I planning to get on a plane in a couple of weeks? Yup.
Am I once again, wondering what the hell I’ve signed up for? Yup.
As my friend C would say, Eeek! Yay! Eeek!
Beware what you wish for.
