Spring Lake Open Water Swim

It's the beginning of the summer season at Spring Lake. We arrived this morning to find the Parking lot full and lots of lawn chairs, towels, and sunshades next to the snack bar. We also noticed some large yellow and orange floating tent-like shapes out in the lake. All became clear when we rounded a corner and found ourselves at the finish line of a swimming competition. An announcer was broadcasting the name of each swimmer as they crossed the finish line, people were milling about in tiny speedos and bikinis with red bathing caps and goggles, mixing with dog walkers, bicyclists and kids in and out of strollers. The ambulance parked next to the spiffy looking trailer that said; PACIFIC MASTERS TEAM--OPEN WATER SWIM seemed just a bit incongruous, as did a pair of policemen standing back from the finish line idly watching the proceedings.

The dam and surrounding weeds have been mowed, and the hills are turning from green to golden, the sand has been smoothed and raked and the canoes and paddle boats have appeared at their summer mooring. The swimming lagoon and adjacent snack bar will open next weekend. There is a general air of spring cleaning as well as expectation in the air.

At the sight of all those swimmers in his lake, Ozzie was beside himself, so instead of our usual route around the lake, we took the high trail, away from the water. Alas, one of Ozzie's favorite swimming holes was off limits this morning.

We are expecting Tim and the kids soon, and have invited Dana and family to join us for a family style (what else?) spaghetti dinner. While making the guest bed, a silverfish fell out of the sheet--the first one I have actually seen. Unfortunately, it was not in the closet I just turned out, but the room where I put all the clothes while I scrubbed the closet. Not quite sure how to proceed, but at least I have a better idea what the culprit is.
