Come on dad!!!!

Any bird would look grumpy if they had to wait over an hour for food. In the rain. This young black bird sat here quietly calling, tolerating the frantic activities of young Siskins and odd noises coming from the window. I wandered off and later spotted a male black bird heading towards him, by the time I arrived dad was sat beside him and the food had gone. The youngster had sat in the same place, stood on one leg for at least an hour with an occasional scratch and look towards the camera.

Some of the shots show a sideways view and his large beak. There are at least two male blackbirds in the garden, it must be hard going to keep the young fed once out of the nest. When watching this youngster a thrush appeared carrying something in its beak, thrashing it madly at the ground. Through the bino's it looked like a small body like a mouse or...... Certainly not a snail as imagined. Anyway a male blackbird appeared and made enough fuss for the thrush to take off.

The RSPB site was informative and included
Fledged young are often left in the care of the male, while the female prepares for the next nesting attempt. The last brood of the season is usually divided between the parents, with each adult taking sole care of some of the young.
