Farewell to the Queen's Relay Baton
Footes Lane Athletics Stadium held a public reception of the Queen's Baton Relay this evening.
The local Athletics Club GIAAC showcased races by their top athletes and there was a public ceremony to celebrate the 'Royal visit'!
All the primary school baton bearers, proudly and deservedly walked the 100m track in front of the crowd with the baton. They passed the baton on to the same school children as yesterday, and we heard why each child had been asked to represent their schools.
So proud of our two delightful baton bearers and as I watched a reenactment of yesterday's amazing relay, I shed another tear. I was relieved to find out that I'm not the only 'wetty' and others have felt just as emotional.
The reception finished with an opportunity for anyone and everyone to touch the baton and have photos taken with it.
I had a lovely time meeting and chatting with the baton relay team who are travelling with the fantastic ornament.
They have thoroughly enjoyed their time in Guernsey, Alderney, Sark & Herm. There was also talk about the disappointment of them missing out on coming along to our engagement party on Saturday night. I got v excited about the prospect of having the baton at our party until they made it clear that they leave the baton in the hotel room when off out on 'socials'!
Ollie had another amazing and successful day, starting with a 0715 boat trip to Alderney. He was extremely chuffed to be the one to pass over the baton from Alderney to Sark.
What amazing weather we've had- just couldn't be better for showcasing our beautiful bailiwick of Guernsey. Looks fabulous on all the media footage!
We now look forward to the tv footage of the Glasgow Commonwealth games in July and the Queen taking her personal message out of the baton and reading it to us all:-)
