Easter tableaux

We spent some time in Girona this morning before wending our way back through the Spanish countryside, visiting the lake at Banyoles and the pretty fortified village of Besalu. We saw a collection of these tableaux in one of the churches in Girona. They are carried supported by long poles through the streets by teams of porters at Easter. The figures are so expressive, pain on the face of Jesus, sorrow on the face of Mary and horror on the faces of the onlookers. Mary is often clothed. I liked this one because its composition had the feel of a classical painting. We called in to do some shopping at the border on the way back. Our Spanish provisions usually include tortilla, serrano hams and chorizo, gaspacho, fruit juice, boquerones, turron, large cans of olive oil, nuts and hard cheeses.
