Corcomroe Abbey

Dear Diary,

A lovely visit to the abbey, Our Lady of the Fertile Rock. The setting is so tranquil and it is as if time stands suspended here. I had the place totally to myself...just the wind and the cuckoo for company. It doesn't take a great deal of imagination to see the figures of hooded monks!

This is the effigy of Connor O'Brian, the grandson of the founder of the abbey. His bones rest to the left of the high altar. For over 800 years this place has stood in the enchanted valley. There truly is a sense of timelessness here.
