Graham Greene Room
Headed into Central London today for an event organised by the Fleet Street Motoring Group, comprising national motoring writers. We hosted a lunch with the chief executive of McLaren Automotive as our guest.
The supercar manufacturer is the sister company of the Grand Prix team, and if you need to ask the price of the cars they produce in their lavish lakeside premises at Woking, you are not a potential billionaire customer. How does £866,000 for a McLaren P1 sound? Me neither. Never mind, a more affordable model is on the way, at around £120,000.
Our lunch venue was Rules, London's oldest restaurant, in Maiden Lane just off The Strand. This wonderful timewarp of a restaurant dates back to 1798. It is where Edward VII used to wine and dine his mistress Lillie Langtry. Writer Graham Greene liked it so much that he included it in one of his most famous books, 'The End Of The Affair'. This second floor private dining room is named in his honour.
