New Years Day and the Holy Family
... And the Revellers brought with them gifts, cigarettes, a warm woolly scarf and a bottle of Carlsberg.....!
We found the Holy Family with their Hogmanay presents at the corner of St Andrew Square after we slip slithered our way down to see the carnage of the night before's big party. We were surprised how back to normal it all was with any residual garbage being swallowed up by huge lorries.
We cancelled our scheduled trip to Shipley after the weather forecasts of last night, so you have one very disappointed lady. I was so looking forward to being part of the birthday celebrations of the baby of the family ( can't you just hear her groan!) and to seeing the two 1 year old cousins interacting. Instead we are stuck in a frozen Edinburgh with 3 extra days which we hadn't planned on having.
It is all so different from last year when we were enjoying the sun and sea of Oman on January 1st.
I stayed awake last night on my own with my hot chocolate until the bells and the fireworks, his Lordship having thrown in the towel at 10pm
I managed to blip the fireworks from the castle turret, but haven't used them as I've no doubt some one more experienced than I will produce amazing photos .
We used to have an uninterrupted view of Edinburgh Castle from our lesser one, but some unsociable neighbour has allowed a eucalyptus tree to grow to an enormous height thus blocking most of the castle building but allowing at the moment a view of the heavens with the fireworks.
A Happy new Year to you all!
