The Polnabrone Portal Tomb
Dear Diary,
Every visit to the Burren must include a walk to the Polnabrone. For 5,000 years it has stood here undisturbed. The mound of dirt that use to cover, it leaving only the door exposed, has long ago worn, washed or blown away. Still it stands. This area of Ireland has seen continual habitation for 10,000 years. It makes one's life time seem like less than a blink of an eye.
The bones of about 24 people were unearthed here. They must have been important to the community to warrant this kind of burial. Honoring the dead has been going on for thousands of years. A life well lived is worth the honoring.
Marveling at the antiquity of this place...
