Just some Words

Thank you for all the well wishes and thoughts, and kind words yesterday on my crappy day at work. They were very much appreciated!

Unfortunately, little Mac didn't make it. We took her into surgery and when we opened up her abdomen discovered that there were lots of adhesions (foreign attachments of tissue) between all her organs. She also had a large egg which had egg yolk leaking into her coelomic cavity (like our abdomen) and the surgery to try and fix all of this would have been far too long and she would have suffered too much blood loss. The recovery would also have been a long and painful one.

At 16 years of age, she had a wonderful long life at the zoo. She was hand reared since hatching from the egg and was very much a favourite among many of the keepers. A sweet little penguin that will be remembered by many.
