The life cycle of a buddleia flower

I think I may have overshot myself here. It all started with me noticing a fresh buddleia flower alongside the remains of former the stems and little cups in which the flower sits. I thought it it would be nice to focus on the remains of the previous seasons bloom with a de-focused version of the new bloom and then I thought it might be interesting to juxtapose this with the focus reversed. I then noted that there were the pink buds alongside fully grown blooms and I had to include these as well. In the end I had four images illustrating the life cycle of buddleia flowers. I am not sure the defocused aspects of the images really work but having put so much effort into the final montage I felt I had to use it. What do you think was it a worthwhile project ?

I have never noticed the buddleia bush retaining its flowers right through the winter previously and feel that, had we not had a mild, rainy winter, this life cycle would not be there to see just now.
