Portal to the Holy Grail

As it was a bank holiday today, we decided to have a little drive and wander in the old mining village of Escaro. The mine workings and quarry have long since been abandoned but the village is beautifully situated and has a certain decaying rustic charm. We came across this gateway with the sign 'Portal to the Holy Grail.' The gateway framed this view of Canigou and led to disused farm buildings. It reminded me of the sad story of an Englishman who took his family up Canigou on midsummer's day a few years ago believing that on this special day and with the intervention of cosmic powers, he would discover the gateway to another dimension. He was struck by lightening and died. I suppose you could argue he found his portal...
