Trying to Tartine

My husband is attempting to make Tartine bread - introduced by my brother-in-law. He and my sister ate it in the Tartine bakery in San Francisco, and bought the book for us. It's just flour, water, and salt - the yeast comes naturally. Really delicious, really healthy, really filling, and really difficult to get right - not that it matters, because the failures also taste wonderful.

Anyway, this was today's attempt - a much shortened version (as he IS trying to rebuild the back of the house as well), so did it in a bread tin with much less folding - but still didn't last long once it was out of the oven...

Notice our swanky new bread knife - gift from son-in-law with money he got from the gig he did - thanks, Sam!
