Boathouses

No. Literally! Houses made from boats!!

On our way home from Heritage Cottage, we stopped off at Holy Island for a walk. First time since we visited Lindisfarne with two grumpy teenagers. We saw the lime kilns, the pebble statues, the walled garden and the outside of the castle.

The castle was re-built by Lutyens on the 16th century original as a holiday home for Edward Hudson in 1901. Hudson was a publishing magnate and owner of 'Country Life'. He ended up with a pad with a sea-view, a vista containing Bamburgh Castle and a garden by Gertrude Jekyll!

The boathouses are upturned Herring Busses and the architectural idea was ripped off for the Scottish Parliament Building in Edinburgh by Enric Miralles.
