Terned Up
Ok this isn't a great image, but it is a great moment in spring when the Terns arrive. I used to sit for hours when I was in Shetland, watching them fishing, swooping, working along a stretch of water, hunting. Such graceful elegant birds with that distinctive call and smart black cap. These birds rock!
Hopefully I will be able to get some better shots as the summer goes on. But apparently these birds see more sunlight than any other creature on earth - the commute (ok migrate) between the hemispheres making the most of the sun's rays. They are also known as Sea Swallow's and the Gaeilic for swallow means literally Bird of the Wind. I think bird of the sea breeze is very fitting for these magical birds.
