Diary of an Edinburgher

Star Struck!

Or, to give him his full name, Pendledean Star Struck.

But to us, he's Archie!

A turn up for the books indeed. And all happened yesterday. Millie (No 4’s) owners couldn’t tell us if both parents had had regular eye checks, and the pups definitely hadn’t had one. This is very important to have done. Millie’s owner wasn’t a registered breeder, just someone who had a (pedigree) bitch and she had a litter. We reluctantly decided not to go ahead with her. But don’t worry - there are more prospective owners around than puppies.

We were in contact with Archie’s breeder, and immediately knew she was the right for us. She and her husband are proper, caring breeders (and they know of puppy farming near them). Archie was in the house with his two brothers, Gus and Colin. Colin is coming to live in Scotland too later this week.

We saw the mum and dad, both salt and pepper, and the grandad has been Best in Class at Crufts! He’s even in a book about Schnauzers. We have Archie’s family tree and pedigree. The breeder gave us loads of toys, blankets, bags of food for a month - so much!

Archie came from Lancashire -a four hour drive. On the way home, he lay on JR’s lap the whole way and didn’t whine or wriggle. Just stuck his head up when there were nice ‘country smells’ wafting in. He’s had a big play in the back garden, and is now happily snoozing in his crate.

So now the fun begins! I’m exhausted already - all that running round the back garden.

Wish us luck for a quiet night!
