Swalec Cup Final 2014
I was time for our now annual pilgrimage to the Millennium Stadium to support Pontypridd in the Swalec Cup final.
It's the third year on a bounce we have made the final, and our second season on the trot we have picked up the silverware. It was a repeat of the 2012 final between us and Cross Keys. Two years ago Cross Keys put in a cracking second half display and run out comfortable winners. A year later and we were back, and we complete the first part of our double winning season by out gunning Neath.
It wasn't a classic final this year, with lots of turgid stuff happening between the two twenty twos. The pattern of the game became obvious after the first quarter. Cross Keys threw everything at us, and we defended brilliantly, we would then attack and come away with points. If Keys kicker had been on target I think it would have been a far more interesting final quarter, as it was, despite only having scraps of possession, we managed to run in two tries and run out comfortable 21-8 winners.
So part one of a double double is done. It feels a little bit second prize after last weeks disappointment, and it was also my last chance to see Ponty this season, as I am at a concert on the league finals night (once again on my birthday).
It's been another awesome season for the club I support, we only get respect begrudgingly, and the anyone but Ponty brigade on Twitter have been annoying as hell, but why care when you go and support something successful ... I really can't imagine what these people have to be bitter about ...
