Tree

We walked across the Links to visit friends this afternoon; we sat round a nice open fire and had cake and Cava and I took some photos of a very cute little baby who was looking around at all the Christmas lights - but the lack of flash (not wanting to startle her) made them unusable.

I like trees without leaves almost as much as trees with leaves on. I think this is a wych elm - there are lots of them planted in public areas in Edinburgh. Happily they don't seem to have been so susceptible to the dreaded Dutch Elm disease as the trees south of the border. Until I wrote this I had no idea why the disease was so called - I checked in Wikipedia and apparently it didn't emanate from the Netherlands at all but got the name because it was first identified by a Dutch scientist in the 1920s!
