bucks life

Grade 4

It's been a beautifully sunny and relatively warm day and I didn't mind spending 3 hours in the car as a result.

On my way to L's in Reading today, I spotted the brown signs for Mapledurham, which is the location of the walled garden for the current Allotment Challenge programme on tv. So I snaked down some very rural private single track roads through the most attractive countryside to take a peek. It is a beautiful red brick mansion. I'd say Elizabethan but I have no idea really. One day I'd like to visit properly but for today it was to quickly practise shots with the new camera.

I arrived at L's about 12.30pm and was reminded what a lovely job they've done with their remodelling last year. The children (all 4 of them!) gave me a wonderful welcome, which always surprises me. F, the youngest, always treats me like royalty and today was no different. She really is a delight and we had a great day playing Ker-plunk and Hedbanz as well as her acting as model for me practising portraits and candids. We had a picnic-type lunch and L and I relaxed and caught up on our news on the new patio while J got on with some gardening and young F entertained us. The boys were nowhere to be seen, next door with their neighbours' children I think.

There were two or three red kites flying around all day, swooping low at times, which I really enjoyed. My blip is of S showing me what she can do practising a Grade 4 exam piece with her little sister acting as music stand. I was mightily impressed.

I took the direct but country route home, again through some lovely scenery and a route I've never done before.

I've really enjoyed my day and am looking forward to a sunny bank holiday Monday too.
