Which bird?
Feeling so much better today, thanks for your sympathy yesterday.
I've been working in the garden, transferring daffodil bulbs from pots into the ground, so didn't notice these feathers on the front lawn until this afternoon. I have no idea which bird they belong to other than from a bird of prey. Sparrowhawk or kestrel probably, but why are they on my lawn and why aren't there any signs of another bird's feathers?
I have come across this twice before in the past few weeks whilst walking through the playing fields and on the side of the road. Same scenario, only feathers from one bird. I would rule out cats simply because sparrowhawks are fast, hedge-hugging birds which only come to the ground to pick up prey and then go off and sit in a tree to eat. Kestrels hover and dart down to scoop up mice or vole.
I am very puzzled and wonder if there are any experts amongst you who can throw any light on this.
