Bowscale Tarn

A corrie lake, one of the few in the northern Lakes. The moraine dam is the mound to the left. The photo doesn't do justice to its height; it is truly huge. The lake is obscured by the moraine as you tramp underneath it on the other side until suddenly the outlet stream provides access to the lake. The back wall to the right is really steep and provides the classical 'armchair' shape to the corrie.

Wordsworth reckoned immortal fish live here. Well he was a poet.
