Diary of an Edinburgher

Drilling and sipping

A lovely warm day, and I was trapped at home because of a delivery. So I set to with a couple of jobs I’ve been saving putting off for such a day.

I attacked the bike shed. I got my drill out with my big bit - 32mm - the biggest I could buy. Also my new goggles, which kept steaming up as I was fair puggled inside the shed drilling the back wall. A (fairly) neat row of big holes along the top back, and along the bottom front. Les reckons that will be enough to give a decent air flow. Ta-dah! I now have a wood shed. Next winter’s wood is on order, semi-dried, and much the cheapest way to buy it.

The shed does look like somebody has machine gunned it, very carefully, in a straight line…

Also cleaned the back door window which I had forgotten about and noticed it barely letting any light through when our visitor was here at the weekend. Luckily, she was seated with her back to it during lunch.

The anticipated outdoor furniture arrived. I had to fit a couple of nuts to attach the legs. But it proved trickier than I thought, as I studied the simple drawing and could not figure it out for ages. In fact, I thought they’d sent a defective table. Which is amazing, as a few of months ago I made up two very tricky shoe cabinets with moving parts. I hope it was a momentary lapse in logic…

You might notice it’s not Edinburgh Gin. That bottle is not finished, I hasten to add, but we’re just trying another Scottish brew - Caorunn. I note that it’s supposed to be served with a freshly cut apple, not a lemon... tsk tsk
