The fool

Continuing with yesterday's theme, and following a tip off I rushed out after work to a local churchyard to photograph yet another beautiful native orchid.
This beauty is a Green-winged or Green - veined orchid - Anacamptis morio.
It is similar to The Early purple orchid, except the flowers have a pair of green or purple veined sepals, and the lanceolate leaves are plain green with no spots.
In the UK it is found in central- southern England, Wales and Ireland, mainly in grassy meadows (or old churchyards) on limestone rich soils.
The flowers range from deep reddish purple right through to white, and grow in a loose linear bunch at the top of a single stalk about 40cm tall. The latin name morio is derived from thr greek work 'moros' meaning 'fool' and refers to the colourful green striped flowers.
I think this orchid like all other British orchids is really stunningly beautiful I hope you agree
