The Crags
Wow! here was I thinking that a thaw was on the cards last night, when I got up to discover ( after clearing the ice from the inside of the turret window) that 6" of snow had fallen silently overnight. It is more than I can remember in 20 years and has transformed the world into a magical expanse of dazzling whiteness.
I felt a bit like Nanuk of the north as his Lordship and I tramped round Arthur's Seat through the virgin snow. Queen's Drive was shut to traffic, and as we went quite early, we had the place to ourselves.
The sky was leaden as we started out , and bang on cue we hit a blizzard as we reached the highest point on the road. We met two park rangers who told us that earlier in the week they had a man ski down from the top of the hill wearing a kilt....... talk about frozen assets!
After a stop at the Palace cafe for a rather too large scone with cream and strawberries, we continued our tramp back up through the park to home. By this time there were lots of families out with sledges and skis.
As I write this blip, his Lordship has plied me with sweet white wine which I like. I feel it is a bit early in the day to be drinking, but he says we're on the countdown to Christmas and can freely indulge........ as if we needed an excuse!
Today's blip is one of the Crags on Arthur's Seat. I feel it gives the impression of being out in the wilds of Scotland instead of being half a mile from our castle.
