The water mill
' There is a mill, an ancient one , Brown with rain, and dry with sun.'
This ancient mill, Millnain mill, is in Fodderty near Strathpeffer. Circa 1830. It is now lived in and a private residence, a category c listed building. It lays on the River Peffery meaning radiant one. You can see the 8-spoke overshot wood and iron wheel which is about 3ft (0.91m) wide by 16ft (4.88m) diameter. There used to be one pair of stones.
I have always wanted to photograph this mill but it is on a rather busy road between Dingwall and Strathpeffer but today we managed to pull over and I very quickly took this shot.
We had been to the tip but when we arrived it was closed for lunch between 2-2.30pm ! So we went to the garden centre and had tomato and red pepper soup with oatcakes, a cup of tea and a naughty piece of mars bar cake.
Managed to pick up some more sunflower hearts, peanuts and hedgehog food so that should keep us going for a while.
