Golden Arches
Probably one of the most recognisable Trade Marks in the world, along with Coke Cola. This symbol can be seen in 33,000 locations in 127 countries, the latest being Vietnam which opened a restaurant in February of this year. There is even one in Pushkin Square, Moscow, which opened in 1990, just after the fall of Communism.
Apparently, the Golden Arches were originally incorporated in the design of the actual restaurant buildings but was discontinued in the 1960's although the symbol was retained.
According to Wikipedia, when the MacDonald brothers wanted to hire an architect to design the buildings, the arches had a direct bearing on the interviewing process and their final choice of Meston: the first architect they interviewed objected to the arches the brothers wanted; a second wanted to change the arches; a third, prominent Los Angeles architect Douglas Honnold, said that if the brothers were going to tell him what to do they would be better off doing it themselves.
Whether we use these fast food restaurants or not, whether we love them or hate them, wherever we are we probably have seen them, usually from some distance away.
