St George's Day 2014
Happy St. George's Day to those of you who celebrate all this means to us of English birth.
The weather has been close and humid this morning and as the garden looked dry, I watered my own backyard and the Prospects planters at the railway station and outside St.Charles church.
The St. George flag was flying on the flagpole at the Rishton Cricket Club, and atop the Rishton Parish Church. I am glad people celebrate and enjoy a drink at the pub, or go to Church on our saints days.
The weeds in the pub garden have grown so much, the next time I have a couple of hours to weed, the dandelions have all my attention!
I put together a collage today of pink blossom, bluebells growing near the school playing field and for- get- me -nots.
England is shaped by the great names, such as William Shakespeare (whose birth and death date it is today), Winston Churchill, William Morris, Florence Nightingale, Jane Austen, and Charlotte Bronte and untold other well known and ordinary people who work hard and raise their families.
Yet England is the lovely land it is, because of the oak trees, and the National Parks, the South Downs, the amazing coastline, The Lake District and the Yorkshire Moors. And untold other beauty spots and places where there is industry and education.
The little wayside flowers are all part of what makes England a beautiful and sacred place to live, work and visit.
