There be giants in the woods...

What a wonderful Bank Holiday! Our friends arrived at lunchtime and we picknicked in the garden, which was sweet with the scent of apple-blossom and broom and rich with the sound of bird song.

After a day inside, I was desperate to get out for a walk. Ross was keen to visit a bluebell wood as she lives on the Wash, and has none nearby. We drove to Old Sulehay Forest, which was a perfect choice - swathes of blue as far as the eye could see. Andfrom this deep blue sea rose the giants - this coppiced small-leaved lime could be almost a thousand years old! Fortunately we were happy to stroll round slowly, as my back was still painful, but it was worth a bit of discomfort to experience such beauty.
