Tombolo
The tombolo which connects St. Ninian's Isle to the Shetland mainland. The tombolo itself is called St Ninian's Ayre.
The weather was poor most of today, so no puffin photos. Went to the new Shetland Museum, which is excellent, then a drive round the mainland.
I try to visit a new Scottish island every year, and this one will just have to count for 2007. I'm not sure whether Hamish Haswell-Davies counts it as one, but since his definition of a Scottish island is a little odd, I'm not too worried. He wrote a book a couple of years back which was kind of like a Munros list for island-bagging. However, it considers the existence of a bridge or causeway as grounds for disqualification, so you end up with a list of Scottish islands which doesn't include Skye and most of the larger Outer Hebrides...
