Early morning light
I took this at 6.30 am. No I wasn't out walking - this is the view from our house over the village in the valley, to the Simonside Hills beyond. Yesterday my walk took me through the field in the foreground, then the village, up the hills on the left, along the distant ridge, down the steep cliff on the right, through the woods below and back by the farmland in the mid-ground. A stiff wind in our faces made it hard work.
The theme of the pooled supper last night was Scandinavian - our host is Danish. People made a real effort with herrings, beetroot, rye bread and spats twisted into Parmesan pastry to start, followed by pickled red cabbage, a kind of burger (couldn't remember the name even before the Schnapps) made with pork and other things, potato salad and pickled cucumber. There were two delicious puddings, one with berries and the other a kind of apple cheesecake. No doubt none of it authentic but it was very tasty. Our host indulged our request for Abba music as it was 40 years since they won the Eurovision Song Contest.
Now I have #3 daughter arriving in a couple of hours with Ella and Nathaniel for a few days to recover from Ella's pox (granny hasn't recovered from the Saturday visit yet!). Oh, it'll be fun!
And I must remember to book and pay for my Speed Awareness Course which I can take so that my driving licence doesn't get the speeding points added.
