15th April

The 15th April 1989 will always be etched in my mind. I was 10yrs old and at a football match with my Dad. 10 minutes in I remember hearing an old guy say loudly to his mate that there was an incident at the FA Cup Semi Final between Nottingham Forest & Liverpool at Hillsborough. Over the next 20 minutes, even as a 10 year old, I realised very quickly amongst the crowd I was in how serious the situation was and as the hours went on how upsetting. I remember watching the news at 18.00 and seeing men, women and children being carried away on advertising hoardings. I was at University in Liverpool 10 years later and will never forget the pain and sadness that the community felt. Today, rightly, all football matches remembered the 96 football fans that never came home.
