Only a Plumber's son . . . .

. . . . would spot the flange of a cast iron down pipe looking for its closure. This venerable piece of plumbing reaching back a century or so has had temporary first aid applied by attached and now incomplete hessian bandage. To the passersby in an Edinburgh street it seem ruefully to grimace on a dry day but in a downpour its yawning mouth will weep water.
