Hummingbird

The Hotel Tilajari sits a few kilometres from the village of Muelle de San Carlos in Costa Rica's Central Highlands. The hotel has extensive grounds which hosts some amazing wildlife: insects, birds and animals alike. The adjacent San Carlos River even plays host to crocodiles, so swimming is confined to the hotel's pools for obvious reasons!

Near one of the outdoor pools, a hummingbird had made her nest in one of the bushes and was incubating an egg at the time of our visit. Thankfully, it was possible to photograph the bird on the nest in close-up, through the leaves and without getting too close and disturbing the beautiful creature.
