Nelson Mandela Place
A bit of a dull day in Glasgow, perhaps it is partly to do with the Sahara sand storm that has hit Britain.
Here is a picture of Nelson Mandela Place, which was renamed from St George's Place by the Glasgow City Council in 1986. The new name was aimed to be a protest against the ANC activist Nelson Mandela being a political prisoner of the South African Apartheid regime.
Mandela visited Glasgow in 1993 and praised the citizens of Glasgow for being the first to offer him the Freedom of the City, at a time more than a decade earlier when many others were still condemning him as a terrorist for his role in challenging the system of racial segregation in his home country.
