I'm in heaven (again)

How’s this for a Friday night view? We drove down with our hostess this afternoon, got a lift across to the island with friends of hers and spent the rest of the afternoon on the pier, before going up to the house for a wonderful Thai dinner, cooked by our host. This area has been one of our special places almost since we arrived in Brazil, its where we kept our sailing boat for eight years, it’s a place of memories. And now to sleep with the sound of waves.

Today is my mother's birthday. She would have been 102. She too had wonderful memories of this island, the site of one of the best weddings we've ever been too. The altar was a surfboard under a thatched lean-to on the beach, the pastor wore bermudas and a pith helmet, and when the schooners came to take us all home, we lingered for so long that we were overtaken by a massive storm. My mother was due to fly back to England that night and easily missed the flight as we were marooned in water 18 inches deep - and she wasn't even bothered.
