'Guinevere - She Built a Nest of Silver Leaves'
Created by award-winning sculptor Ian Marlow
A drive across the Mendip Hills and through the clouds this morning took us to Wells for a visit to the market. After a mooch around the shops and the market, where I bought another three books (but how could I resist when they're on offer at three for £5!!), we went to the Bishop's Palace for coffee and to rest our weary feet. Shopping is hard work you know!
As swans seem to be featuring a lot on Blip at the moment, I thought I'd show you Guinevere, who is to be found gracefully weaving her silver nest in the moat of the Bishop's Palace.
Guinevere was part of 'Swans of Wells 2012' which was a major tourism initiative for Somerset, featuring the public display of sixty, magnificently decorated, 5ft swan sculptures, one for each of the sixty years of the Queen's reign. The flock was displayed in locations around Wells and the surrounding Somerset countryside for 3 months from June to September 2012, and then auctioned off for charity. Guinevere was bought by a Wells consortium, ensuring that she will welcome visitors to the 800 year old Bishop's Palace for many years to come.
If you wish to see the real thing, and know a bit more about the Bishop's Palace see here for my blip from 4 January.
