St Katherine's

Today I met with the trustees of TLI, the Leadership Institute, to discuss communications at the Royal Foundation of St Katherine. The Trustees are remarkable people who, for more than 20 years, have trained senior clergy and remain passionate, involved and energised.

5 minutes stroll out of the Royal Foundation of St Katherine’s in St Katherine’s Dock, a lively place with a huge variety of boats and house boats. In the background is St Anne's, Limehouse, built between 1714-1727, one of the twelve churches built through the 1711 Act of Parliament. The church is named after Queen Anne, who initiated the scheme and raised money for it by imposing a tax on coal coming up the River Thames. The church was designed by Nicholas Hawksmoor, Sir Christopher Wren’s assistant. This church was gutted by fire on Good Friday 1850, quickly restored by Philip Hardwick and is today, a lively church serving the diverse local community.
