candle smoke

Candles have attracted me since childhood - closet arsonist probably. Even in dreams they have provided insight. Although fascinated by the dancing flame, I was equally entranced by the swirling patterns of smoke when the flame is extinguished. It reminds me of veils of fine silk in the breeze and has a certain quality of softness and beauty, a dreamlike quality. So I decided to attempt to capture something of its nature for todays photo.

Until I tried to photograph it, I hadn't realised how ephemeral and variable the results could be. The photo I've used was one of dozens of attempts. I thought it would be an easy task, light candle, blow it out, photograph it, job done.

I wouldn't say I'm exactly satisfied with this result as a photo, but it's a start. I'm still in the depths of "the project" and finding time for everything else - anything else - is proving a challenge. So this is a good start and something I may well return to on another occasion to explore a little further.
