If you should go down in the woods today ..

It's not every day that you come across a dry earth privy that is a listed building of national importance. Well, for your delectation, here is one, in the grounds of Fyvie Castle.

It is described as being a late 18th century small square building, constructed of red rubble with red sandstone dressings, harled and with ogee moulded eaves course and a pyramid roof.

Inside there is a wooden bench equipped with a suitable aperture. The night waste was collected via a small door at the back of the building.

Doubtless it was for the use of the Laird's workers rather than for the Laird himself!
