365

Can a year go by so quickly?

Sure it can. A year ago I stood in a tesco's car park and took a photo of the 'hello' sign illustrated in food, tweaked it on iPhone and posted it as my first 'blip'. As most of us know, as tough as it is sometimes to find a blip, as much as what we put up is not as we would like photographically speaking, this daily posting is addictive. Really addictive. And brilliant fun.

I had all sorts of plans this week to do a dramatic photo for 365, something that would take a bit of time and would round off the year with a bang. But maybe the one thing that I have learned about making a record like this is that sometimes, in fact quote often, time runs away with you. There are so many things that 'need' doing during the course of a single day, and when you are one is working hard that catching a single representative image that both sums up the moment of the day and is artistically beautiful, photographically eye catching and technically perfect becomes just a pipe dream*. But the trying is what moves us on.

What has happened during the course of 365 is that I have rekindled my love of my SLR: having started the year on iPhone, playing around with the post production apps, come June/July then a single photo of a stag beetle brought me round.

Also I committed to being more real (ahem) timely with my journal, each entry being taken actually on the date. For better or worse at least it was an honest representation of my input that day and helps to make the whole journal more lifelike and more reportage than catalogue.

And so, here we are, a photo of my watch as I finish work on a Friday as, although technically vey imperfect, it sums up today.

So what next? I have recently made up an apple book of photos from recent years. And it was expensive, but very impressive. So this year I will have to improve on my written journal entries and then, maybe then I can justify a book of the next years blips.

Because, lets face it, I'm not stopping here. Anyone up for another 365?
