Female Reed Bunting
Happy Mothers Day.
Well laid in bed, just in case I might have got breakfast. By 9am, I could hear the birds singing and my feet started twitching - sorry girls.
I felt like the oracle on the beach. I met some really nice visitors, a bird watcher from Lincoln who decided to visit Donna Nook rather than Gibraltar Point. He was looking to try and capture a shoot of a curlew, so I pointed him in the direction of Saltfeelt Haven. I always spot at least one there feeding in the muddy estuary. I hope he got lucky. Then an elderly couple from ~Chesterfield who were spending a few days in Cleethorpes. The were wanting to see the seal pups. I obviously couldn't help them other than to let then know when the best times were to see the breeding colony.
I spend some time in the dunes, just enjoying the peace and quiet and solitude, when I spotted this little lady in the hedgerow. It took me a little time to work out what she was, at first I thought she might be a Twite, but with the help of my newly purchased Bird book, and a visit to Google to see a few more images. I was able to confirm (and get it verified from my new birding Facebook friends), that I had actually got a few nice shots of this beautiful female Reed Bunting.
Anyway I am away now to eat a lovely Sunday lunch with my family. I promise I will catch up with my geed later this evening. Enjoy whats left of Mothers Day.
