The Virgin of Alsace

A bronze scupture, 1919-1921 by Emile-Antoine Bourdelle 1861-1929 in bronze at the Scottish Gallery of Modern Art 2 on a quick lunch time walk. It looked like rain, and I didn't want to spend too much time away from the office as I was quite busy, and it was Friday. I pass this sculpture quite a lot and I thought I had blipped this before, but I hadn't.

The sculpture itself is an intermediary sculpture for the 6 metre high stone sculpture at Niederbruck, Alsace, France and is in the French Gothic style. Apparently it is based on his wife and daughter.

I think the sculpture embodies post First World War optimism. Hope for the next generation. Easter.
