Bagel Bliss

I made 16 fresh honey whole wheat bagels today. At first I thought it was a lot, but then I decided that if I was going to put the effort into making them, I might as well make a big batch. If you're interested, I got the recipe . They aren't as hard as you might think, although I didn't have a mixer, so I kneaded the dough by hand. Now most of them are packed snugly in the freezer to be brought out when a quick breakfast is needed.

Bagels, and all other bread products for that matter, are a luxury in Thailand. The staple in Thai food is rice or noodles, so all bread products are special. In Bangkok, loafs of bread are readily available at the supermarket or from specialty bakeries, but they are expensive. So when time permits, I like to bake for myself. It doesn't happen often, but I'm glad it happened today. Just seeing all these freshly baked bagels makes me smile.
