Mackerel Sky
Interesting sky as we left Florida. I think this is what is known as a "mackerel sky".
Rows of small white clouds take on the appearance of the pattern on a mackerel's back.
As you'd imagine there are lots of theories attached to the mackerel sky.
For example: "Mackerel Sky, mackerel sky. Never long wet, never long dry." So, basically it was a sign of mixed weather.
In the era of sailing ships this cloud formation was taken as a warning of stormy weather: "Mare's tales and mackerel scales make lofty ships take in their sails."
Unfortunately we didn't stay in Florida long enough to find out what kind of weather was coming in.
