Roccelletta of the Bishop of Squillace
The impressive ruins of the basilica dating back to the the High Middle Ages of Santa Maria della Roccella, commonly known as the Roccelletta (in the municipality of Borgia) are reminders of its past importance.
Despite centuries of neglect and lack of coverage, the complex retains traces of the original refined architecture Norman and Byzantine.
The basilica is divided into three parts: the terminal with three semicircular apses, the raised transept and a longitudinal part very elongated.
Near the ruins is located the archaeological park including the excavations of the ancient greek-roman Scolacium.
Here was born Flavius Magnus Aurelius Cassiodorus, the learned adviser of Theodoric, King of the Goths.
