Nevada to Utah

Sad to say good-bye
to our lovely desert days
but home beckons now

We left Mesquite, Nevada after breakfast this morning. Mesquite is just west of the northwest corner of Arizona, so just a few miles out of Mesquite we were in the Virgin River Gorge on Hwy 15 at the edge of the Mojave Desert. It is a dramatic piece of landscape with the Virgin River winding along through it. The 15 crosses the river several times as it winds through the gorge. (lower left photo)

No sooner were we out of the gorge than snow on mountain tops started appearing on the not-too-distant horizon. D took it as a cue that our freshwater holding tanks needed to be emptied now. We pulled into a rest stop so D could unload our hot water tank and the freshwater tank. It poured off the back of the trailer like it was Niagara Falls! (top left photo)

The day continued with sunny weather. As the elevation increased, the temperatures decreased. The views from Hwy 15 are quite lovely all the way. As we approached Salt Lake City, Utah, the mountains grew bigger and the snow load on them looked significant. (top right photo) We've climbed from Mesquite with an elevation of 1600 feet to Salt Lake with an elevation of 4200 feet. When we stepped out of the truck to set up the trailer we felt a chill and knew we were going to need heat on tonight. We can expect it to go down to freezing overnight.

We haven't been wearing jeans and socks since we left Canada last October. Tomorrow's the day they are coming out of the closet!!
