It was breakfast at Peggy Sue's diner then off in search of the Mesquite Museum. That was jam-packed with local memorabilia. It was also next door to the Art Gallery. Both venues were compact so we were soon off to search for the Bunker Memorial overlooking the Virgin River Valley. Neighbouring Bunkerville (founded 1877) was named for Mr. Bunker. An added bonus was finding a geocache right behind the Memorial plaque!
We re-progammed the GPS to take us to Lost City Museum in Overton, Nevada, some 45 minutes down the highway. This museum was built on the site of a pueblo uncovered from dunes in the Mojave Desert in 1935. The University of Nevada has studied the area and has contributed greatly to the understanding of the peoples who lived and traded and traveled through Southern Nevada for thousands of years. We enjoyed the outside of the museum as well as the inside. We found a roaming lizard, cactus in bloom and the reconstructed pueblo.
Dinner plans brought us back to Mesquite. The Eureka Casino features a splendid steakhouse called Gregory's. D had the New York Strip and I had the Prime Rib. No birthday cake, just a wee cupcake!
