All perspiration and no inspiration.....
.....oddly similar experiences inside and outside work today. Nothing was straight forward, everything required lots of concentration and seemed to be going nowhere..... even when it came time to blip, I was bereft of ideas and this is the result. Early bed tonight, I think I'm tired.
Oh, for anyone interested, there is a free public lecture at Edinburgh Uni School of Informatics tomorrow at 4pm
Warehouse-scale Computing , Luiz André Barroso, Google
Synopsis
A model of computing that involves applications and services offered remotely by large-scale data centres has been increasing in popularity, due in large part to the efficiencies achievable by co-locating vast computing and storage capabilities and by amortizing their cost over many users and applications. Achieving such large efficiencies in practice, however, requires further understanding of this new computing platform; how to design it and how to best program it. In this talk I will provide an overview of this new class of Warehouse-scale computing systems, describing some of their key features and challenges involved in their design, programming and operation.
