Doha Days
Not quite Cheltenham Race Festival somehow! This train of camels were on their way to the starting gate. Unlike horse racing the camels have no jockey when they race but are controlled, instead, by small robots strapped between their humps. The trainers drive along the side of the track in their landcruisers controlling the camels by remote control handsets. There was no crowd at all but live tv coverage. There was no sign of any bookies either but I assume there must be some incentive somewhere. The biggest surprise was that all this was happening on the most holy day of the week.
We had spent the morning on a remote shell strewn beach on the Gulf of Bharain coast of the Qatar peninsular. The sea was warm. The water crystal clear. The shells were most memorable.
